THESE ARE NEEDED TO USE MOST OF THE MODERN RIMS INCLUDING THE NIFTY ALUMINUM MAG TYPE. YOU ALSO GET THE ADVANTAGE OF A DOUBLE SET OF TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS AND RACES IN THE FRONT HUB AND THE ABILITY TO USE A BEARING BUDDY TO PROTECT THE BEARINGS FROM WATER DAMAGE.
NOTE:YOU WILL NEED TO GET FOUR 5/8" TO 3/4" BEARING ADAPTERS AS THESE HUBS ARE MADE FOR 3/4" SPINDLES AND MOST CARTS USE A 5/8" SPINDLE

I HAD TO GO WITH AN EXTERNAL FUEL TANK BECAUSE THE STAR DID NOT COME WITH ONE. I FIRST SALVAGED A TANK OFF OF AN OLD RIDING MOWER. I WAS BLACK PLASTIC AND UGLY AS HOME MADE SIN. BUT IT WAS FREE.
ANOTHER OPTION I LOOKED AT WAS AN EXTERNAL FUEL TANK FOR OUTBOARD ENGINE. THESE WERE REALLY COOL. THEY HAD SIPHON TYPE PICKUPS AND SOME HAD FUEL GAUGES. DOWNSIDE WAS THAT MOST ARE BRIGHT RED AND HAVE SOME WEIRD SHAPES.
IT WOULD BE PRETTY EASY TO BUILD A FUEL TANK. I LOOKED AT LARGE PVC PIPE WITH TWO OF THOSE END CAPS AND PVV GLUE. PROBLEMS HERE INCLUDE ENGINEERING THE FILLER NECK AND VENTED CAP.

AZUSA 42" FLEXPROOF 1" AXLE STEPPED DOWN TO 3/4" AND THREADED

TO USE THE REAR HUBS LISTED ABOVE YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE OEM AXLE OR HAVE A MACHINE SHOP BORE THE HUB OUT TO A 1" DIAMETER. I CHOSE TO GO WITH A NEW AXLE BECAUSE I HAD HEARD SUCH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE AZUSA AXLES AND I NEEDED MORE LENGTH TO ALLOW CLEARANCE FOR LARGER TIRES. THE OEM AXLE IS 40" I WENT WITH A 42" AND WITH 11" REAR TIRES I HAVE 2.5 INCHES OF CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE TIRES AND THE REAR SHOCKS/FRAME.

THE OEM SEAT ON THE YERF DOG SIMPLY DOES NOT GIVE THE COMFORT OR SUPPORT NEEDED FOR ANY NARLY OFFROAD ADVENTURES. AS A GROUP THE GUYS AT "YERF DOG OFFROAD CARTS" LOOKED AT A VARIETY OF SEATS AND SEAT OPTIONS. THEY RANGED FROM SALVAGED CAR SEATS TO THE FULL SUPPORT BUCKET SEATS USED IN RACING CARTS. WE FINALLY DECIDED THAT THIS SUMMIT RACING SEAT WAS THE BEST BLEND OF COMFORT, CHEAP PRICE AND DURABILITY AVAILABLE. THEY ALSO COME IN A VARIETY OF COLORS.

THE STEERING IS ANOTHER WEAK LINK IN THE OEM YERFDOG SETUP. AFTER ALL THE YERF DOG IS ONLY A YARD CART OR FUN CART WITH CERTAIN OFF ROAD CHARACTERISTICS. THE BELL CRANK STEERING IS BOTH WEAK AND AT THE SAME TIME BELOW THE FLOOR PAN AND OPEN TO DAMAGE FROM ROCKS, ROOTS AND OTHER HAZARDS. ONE QUICK FIX IS A SMALL SKID PAN TO PROTECT IT FROM HARM.
A RACK AND PINION IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST AND BEST WAYS TO STEER A CART. THIS ONE FROM DESERT CARTS IS OF THE PROPER SIZE AND EASY TO ADAPT TO THE TIE RODS ALREADY ON THE YERF DOG.
